                  • Skateboard On A Curve

  • Curve Extreme Sport is a skateboard concept with hopes of creating a new sport. The design has a pair of Motor GP-inspired tires that taper on both ends to allow the rider to make sharp turns during a high speed down-hill race. Thanks to the drafted angle of the tires the contact point is minimal, as a result the rider can skateboard with minimal friction which means maximum speed and greater agility.

Traditional skateboards have four wheels therefore, it travels as a flat surface. This new design has two wheels, thus allows the board to move in a line.

Are these boards (curve board) available on the market?

If so, where can they be purchased?

We have a website that can promote this in the “wintersport” arena.

Do you have a contact number? Please advise.

well, you can’t find it on the market yet, cause it is still a concept…it needs more refinements.

Nice concept… I’d buy it… but I have hesitations: doesn’t look like there’d be enough clearance for serious shredding. On a lean, it looks like the wheels will scrap the board.

O.K. how long to work out the small issue and get this in production? Niche market maybe? You have to look at whose going to be buying.

Demograhics are going to be Generation Xers with some play money who remember skating in the 80's

What's your timeline on a finished product?

That “new sport” is gonna be the extremely dangerous.
      Skate boarding is dangerous enough.
But adding mos speed to the board as well as agility.
Now that’s just screaming, “Go break some bones, and die.”

      • john wintrop says:

        ur just a pussy…

      • headinbed says:

not only are you a pussy, you’re stupid too. have you not heard of the sport called longboarding? ppl go 50mph+ on a regular basis.

    • me says:

This is the greatest skateboard design ever. The architectural design is amazing. Please mass market these things so I can get one as soon as possible!

    • Hunter B. says:

Downhill skateboarding already exists. This two wheel design would not offer a sufficient amount of traction with the road. Cornering would be very touchy with a design like this. If you want to go downhill fast on a skateboard look up Landyachtz or Rogers Bros.

Downhill Skateboarding is alive and well where there are hills. The concepts have been tested and proven. Improvements can be made in deck design, truck design and wheel design. It need not be re-invented.

      • will johnson says:

i agree, this design would no allow for enough traction, also you cant do tricks on it b/c there’s no kicktail, so right there downhill and street skating are out the window. the only this board would be good for was cruising and even then the fact that it has such a low surface area touching the ground would cause the rider to be easily thrown from the board if he it any small obstacle.

    • Alex says:

This is really cool! Love the look. You guys really should find some way to allow the center wheel to rotate because that would allow it to slide, not just carve, that would be sick! Just my 2cents.

    • Daily Tech Impressio says:

Nice Design, its definetely very unique just does not look like enough clearance!

    • Daily Tech Impressions says:

    • skateboard says:

wow another out of this world design of a skateboard, I am now confused on what to buy will it be on style or style, this mind boggling task is making me crazy

    • Brett McPherson says:

Great design, clearance on a standard skateboard is 25 mm, so as long as that issue is addressed with curved sides of the deck, I dont see any problem. I like that it has no trucks and tapered side wheels so the more the board tilts the smaller the radius turn.
      Excellent stuff.
I might even have a go at making one of these myself if youre not going to ????

    • relet says:

“minimal friction which means maximum speed and greater agility.”

And minimal control. And minimal grip.

The problem with high speeds is not the friction on the ground, but air friction of the rider. The overall fastest downhill boards (although they are not legal in IGSA races) have six wheels for additional friction in the curves.

The trucks of a longboard allow it to have a large contact patch at all times during a turn.
The edge of a snowboard allow it to have a maximum contact patch at all times during a turn. (That’s why it leans)
A surf-, wake-, kiteboard aims to have a maximum contact with the water when you build pressure (in a turn).

Many concepts have been developed which allow to “lean” into a curve. Tierney Rides, Flowboard, etc.. they all neglect to maximize the contact patch, and so does yours.

      • Gary Chang says:

Thanks for spending time to analyze my design. Well, it’s just a concept now and there are many things that need to be resolved and improved. Nothing is perfect at first time, right? You need to keep on trying and trying until the design is right. I believe that’s how you do things in real life.

Here is my motto: Don’t play the game, create the game. If not, then change it.

Again, thanks for all the criticism, I’ll keep on trying.

        Regards

        Gary Chang

    • alex says:

sorry man, this doesn´t work out.
beautiful CAD concept but that´s it.
in the first turn it´ll blow you because you friggin need (at least) 4 wheels and a big wide contact patch for traction to make high speed turns.
i tell you this as a
      – product and industrial designer
      – composite downhill- and slalom-deck producer
      – worldcup skateboard-downhill racer
      – F1 composite technician

ps.: depending on road surface a presumably slower wide & soft wheel can be way faster than a hard wheel or small contact patch that rattles you to death.

ever thought why F1 cars are not equiped with razorthin gas-saving tires?

    • alex says:

pps: your design would only allow to ride exactly one curve radius — useless.

      (harsh but true)

    • alex says:

      ppps:
in an average standup skateboard downhill race at worldcup level you would skate at speeds between 70-90 km/h (up to 120 km/h at teutonia in brazil).
      how fast did you skate?
check some video footage of recent europe wc races at igsaworldcup.com or skatehorde.com to get an impression.

btw: so i don´t come across as an anonymus a$$hole that just wants to bash you:
my name is alex luxat and i have built composite skateboards at wefunk.de
since i no longer produce decks but F1 cars i have no reasons to flame you but just show you the reality.

      sorry anyway
      alex

      • Gary Chang says:

    • David says:

Some ideas here are good, low center of gravity for one. But the turning will not well for anyone that is experienced with skating. As you lean over and hit the turn wheels you will turn at the radius they are set at. With traditional trucks you lean a little, turn a little, lean a lot, turn a lot. Here it’s one radius or none. Incorporate a kicktail so the the front wheels can be picked up and the rider can pivot on the rear and maybe it will work, but like this it will get old quick.

    • zottel says:

high speed dh-skateboarding with this crappy thing?…hahahaha!…you must be either dumb or insane!(do you skate?…do you know anything about dh-skateboarding?…i mean dh skateboarding at serious speeds…to me it seems that you think 30 k’s are fast)

(the reasons for which your design is nothing but a serious kind of bullcrap when it goes to dh-skateboarding have already been explained, so i wont spend my timetryi’n to explain it to you again)

    • Eskimo says:

I’m not sure I understand the benefit of only having 2 wheels.

you don’t always want lots of grip, escpecially going 50mph into a sharp corner. Drifting the corner or loosing some traction is essential in speed control. Theres a whole concept of drifting before the corner, hitting the apex of the corner and then “sling-shotting” out pf the corner.

I’m sure the tappered wheel design would also be completely horrible once speed wobbles occur.

    • Lindsay says:

I’m fairly conservative in what I’ll skate, but I look at this and I can see how it works straight away.

My only criticisms are that, for street skating, the ride might be TOO stable and get boring too fast.

    • Lindsay says:

The two wheels in the middle are going to be pretty fast though, that’s not a bad idea.
